When silver is golden.

On Sunday, in the frozen tundra of Madison, WI. HD Coaching athlete and Mars Hill College cyclist Tim Jenkinson took home his second consecutive silver medal in the Collegiate National Cyclocross Championships.

As could be expected, the top step was the goal. A mechanical right at the start meant that he was way back in eighth after the first pit. For the rest of the race he chased through the field but ultimately ran out of time to close on the much deserved winner. As you can tell from the picture below, Tim was really and truly happy with his performance. He should be, he overcame a lot of adversity with crash related injuries and license problems that prevented him racing some key events.

Tim on the Podium!
The journey to get here was not straight forward and not done without a ton of hard work and dedication to the process. Never once did he give up or complain. Talking to him right after the race, he gave me the greatest compliment an athlete can give, "Buddy, I don't know what you did or how you did it, but I have never felt that good or strong in all my life!" I still get a lump in my throat over that. Thanks Tim!

I'm planning to interview Tim for a second blog entry so that you can get an insight into what it takes what had to be overcome to get here. Look for that in the next few days.
